Create and edit both still and animated sprites.
LibreSprite is a free and open source pixel art editor which is forked from the original Aseprite application which was originally a freeware option.
The user interface of the application is rather pleasant and offers a few useful tools for creating some really cool looking retro, 8-bit style artwork. As a multi-tasking graphics editor, you may also edit multiple images at once with ease.
Creating your own images is pretty straightforward with the tools available: pencil, eraser, move, paint bucket, line, rectangle and contour. The last item can edit existing creations with a blur effect. There's a color editor and a number of color presets which can be used to mimic consoles like the Gameboy, Commodore 64, Sega Master System and the original Nintendo.
With LibreSprite, you're also able to work with layers in a comfortable way. The visibility of the layer can be toggled or simply deleted.
In addition to the included graphics editing tools, there's also an experimental script function available.
All in all, LibreSprite is an interesting and promising pixel art creation application which can be used to make some pretty awesome retro-looking images and works of art.
